Clemson was eliminated from the ACC Atlantic Division title picture with NC State’s 34-30 win over North Carolina on Friday night.
Clemson needed to have NC State and Wake Forest both lose their regular season finales this weekend to prevail in a tiebreaker to represent the Atlantic Division against Pitt in the 2021 ACC Championship Game in Charlotte, N.C. on Dec. 4.
With their win, NC State kept its hopes of playing in the title game alive. The Atlantic Division title picture has now simplified, with Wake Forest winning the title outright with a win over Boston College on Saturday. If the Demon Deacons lose, NC State will advance out of a three-team tie between Wake Forest, Clemson and NC State. Wake Forest would be eliminated with the worst divisional record, the second tiebreak. NC State would then advance based on a head-to-head win over Clemson.
Pitt has not faced Wake Forest since beating the Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem to clinch the Coastal Division title in 2018. That is the only game between the teams in program history. Pitt has lost three straight against NC State, and two as conference opponents, at Heinz Field in 2017 and 2020.
They will be back. Alabama didnt go the SEC Championship every year either, no one said Alabama was done.
