Junior hockey: Chippewa Steel stun Minnesota Wilderness with three goals in final 2:08

Steel erupt for five goals in the third period to win NAHL contest.

Chippewa’s Joe Kelly, Jack Brown and Parker Gnos scored goals in the final 2:08 as the Steel stunned the Minnesota Wilderness 7-5 in a North American Hockey League game Friday, Nov. 26, 2021, at Chippewa Area Ice Arena in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

In all, the Steel scored five goals in the third period to erase a 4-2 deficit after two periods as Kelly finished with a hat trick.

The Wilderness led 3-1 after the first period on goals by Logan Anderson, Ethan Wolthers and Cole Crusberg-Roseen.

Kelly and Wilderness forward Brendan Doyle exchanged goals in the second, setting up a crazy third period, with the Steel starting the final period with goals by Joseph Grainda at 4:35 and Kelly scoring the equalizer at 11:57.

Crusberg-Roseen scored at 16:03 to give the Wilderness a 5-4 lead, but it proved to be brief.

Levi Gho had 28 saves for the Steel while Sam Livecchi had 23 saves for the Wilderness.

The same teams rematch at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at Northwoods Arena in Cloquet.
