In their final regular-season game, the University of Utah football team added "22 Forever" and the initials of their fallen teammates Aaron Lowe and Ty Jordan to their helmets.

Ute fans said honoring the two has been a special and significant part of this season.

Some Ute fans have found their own way to honor Jordan and Lowe, including fan Cassie Larsen.

“My husband and I made these sweatshirts because you just can’t find some of the honorable sweatshirts you want,” she said.

Larsen is a Utah grad and a season ticket holder. She and her husband were sporting number 22 sweatshirts of their own design while tailgating before the game.

“We made sure that we had the commemoration of the 22 and the logo for Aaron and Ty Jordan because we miss them,” Larsen said.

She said she’s appreciated the ways the school has honored them too.

“That third quarter break that they have for them, and the way that they’ve done the portal for them, I love it," Larsen said. "It just shows that the Utes are a family, we’re not just a team. If you come here to play with us, you’re a part of our family.”

With the addition of 22 Forever to the helmets with the initials of Jordan and Lowe inside, fans like Colin Erickson think it was a fitting addition.

“It’s a nice tribute," Erickson said. "Both of them, you know? The team is thriving on it this year. If that’s there good karma, then let it be. It’s great that they’re honoring them that way.”

For fans like Buck Hall, he thinks the team has worked even harder this season to honor them too.

“That’s where they came up with the 22 extra percent. We’re going to give it 122 percent," Hall said. "So yeah, I really think that the team has embraced the loss, the pain in their hearts, and they’ve just played their hearts out."

Larsen said she agrees.

“I think the team has very much stepped it up and said, we’re going to play for our guys, and having this emblem and having that reminder in the stadium every day and having it on their helmets or whatever on their uniforms, that reminds them every day and they make sure to remember them," she said. "I think that helps.”

The Utes will play next on Dec. 3 in the Pac-12 Football Championship Game in Las Vegas.
