Patrick Reilly, Christian Chouha and Sean Guinnessey scored for Christian Brothers, No. 3 in the NJ.com Top 20, in its 3-0 victory against No. 1 Don Bosco Prep at the Ice Vault in Wayne.
Evan Brown led the way in the assists department with two while Zachary Wagnon added one. John Donohue pitched the shutout between the pipes with 15 saves.
Ethan Marich made 25 saves for Don Bosco Prep.
“Both teams were anxious to go and why not have a private night on Black Friday?” Christian Brothers head coach Andy Gojdycz said. “We kept Bosco to the outside and minimized their shots. They had some chances, but we didn’t expect less of JD and he came to the task as we knew he would.”
Through just one game, Gojdycz sees a quality in his bunch that could take it a long way.
“We have depth – plain and simple,” he said. “We had 72 kids try out and we have two junior varsity teams and a varsity team. It’s important for our future. We care about each other and it links up the team bond. When you have those things going for you, it could shape up to be a good year.”
