Mike Brown has been Dustin Poirier's head coach for a very long time. His pupil head into UFC 269 with a second opportunity to become the UFC lightweight champion.

The bout sees Dustin Poirier take on noted submission artist Charles Oliveira in the Brazilian's first title defense since UFC 262. He won the best against Michael Chandler back in May.

“This is top of the mountain, top of the food chain – No. 1 spot in the world,” Brown told MMA Junkie. “We’re confident going in. He’s been at this level before. I think his resume is the best in the weight class with Khabib retired. I think he’s the best guy and I think he’s proven it time and time again. It’s a crazy game, but I believe he’s the better fighter and I think he’s going to win.”

Charles Oliveria is one of the best submission artists in MMA and has the ability to finish anyone at any moment. UFC 269 will help legitimize his status as the lightweight champion.

“He’s very dangerous,” Brown said. “He has the ability to probably tap anybody. There’s some really red-zone danger areas to worry about with him. He’s got a lot of experience, been in many, many fights, just as Dustin. But I do think Dustin’s beaten better guys in his career.”

UFC 269 will be Dustin Poirier's moment to put a UFC title on his resume. A moment Mike Brown will be very proud to see.

“It’ll be amazing,” Brown said. “I don’t know if words can really describe it. It’s a lifetime of work coming to a head. To a spot where you can’t get any higher. The ultimate view. This is where we’re at. He’s very close to that moment and in two weeks we’re going to get it.”

Dustin Poirier worked his way back to the title after losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov two years ago. Now is the opportunity for him to prove that he is one of the UFC's best fighters.

Charles Oliveira has been looking to legitimize his place as the champion. UFC 269 will be a huge opportunity for both men.
