The Tampa Bay Rays traded outfielder Jordan Luplow to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for infielder Ronny Simon, the teams announced Friday.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Diamondbacks designated right-handed pitcher Brett de Geus for assignment.

Luplow, 28, was acquired by the Rays midseason last year along with DJ Johnson in a deal that sent Peyton Battenfield to the Cleveland Guardians. In 25 games down the stretch, the former third-round pick hit .246/.319/.477 with four homers and one steal. He also went 2-for-7 with one double and one home run in four postseason appearances.

The 21-year-old Simon hit .245/.329/.454 with 17 homers and 19 stolen bases while playing 97 games across two minor-league levels last year, appearing at second base, third base, and shortstop. He was originally signed as an international prospect by the Chicago Cubs.
