ORANGE, Ohio

Theft: Park Avenue

Police responded to the Urban Outfitters store at Pinecrest on Nov. 20 where they met with a local woman, 49, who said she had been shopping there with her daughter between 2:45 and 3:45 p.m., when the daughter left her $3,000 Louis Vuitton embroidered purse unattended near the fitting rooms.

When she returned, the purse was gone. The mother said that if applicable, she would be willing to press criminal charges, which in this case would be felonies. The purse was described as brown, with a pink strap, with multiple pockets and an attached brown coin purse.

Rear plate illumination, suspicion of drunk driving, open container, no operator’s license: Chagrin Boulevard and Orange Place

While on stationary patrol at Mooney’s service station around 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 16, an officer noticed a 2011 Nissan Versa driving south on Orange with no lighting on its rear license plate.

In the ensuing traffic stop, the officer noticed possible signs of impairment in the driver, a Willowick man, 50, in addition to the smell of marijuana coming from the car and the open can of beer in the driver’s side cup holder.

For that matter, there was no record of a driver’s license for the driver, whose Ohio I.D. card was also expired. Claiming he’d only had one beer, the Breathalyzer said otherwise, with a blood-alcohol content reading of .195, more than double the legal limit of .08 BAC. He was booked on several charges and turned over to a family member.

After emergency dispatchers received a 9-1-1 phone call from the Courtyard by Marriott with no one on the line at 11:18 a.m. on Nov. 21, they called the hotel back and learned that management was training a new housekeeper who forgot to unplug the phone before cleaning it. The call was confirmed as accidental.
