Should Tim Tebow be a candidate for the Florida head coach job? Robert Griffin III made the argument for him on the Paul Finebaum show.

The Florida Gators probably didn’t expect to be in a position to replace Dan Mullen in 2021, but here they are.

With jobs also open at LSU and USC, and candidates taking themselves out of the running by signing huge extensions, they may have to get creative in order to find their new head coach.

How creative could they get? Robert Griffin III has an out-of-the-box suggestion: Tim Tebow.

Robert Griffin III suggest Tim Tebow as next Florida head coach

The problem with Griffin’s plan is it’s more Ted Lasso than reality. Yes, having a charismatic leader sounds great if you surround him with the right football people but it’s a lot more complex than that. This isn’t TV.

Tebow is a wonderful ambassador for the Gator program but he’s never been a coach at any level of any sport. It takes more than being a good athlete or strong motivator to be a truly successful head coach. We don’t even know if Tebow would be a particularly great recruiter because he’s never had to do it full-time as a job.

Never in the history of modern American sports has a move like that worked out, if it has been tried at all. The last thing Florida needs is an experiment of that proportion potentially setting them back even further.

Griffin might feel very at home on college football message boards with that suggestion. It’s a good thing he’s not going to play any part in the Gators’ actual hiring process.
