Brooks Koepka started the week signing a lucrative endorsement deal with Cleveland/Srixon and ended it by handily taking out rival Bryson DeChambeau in The Match played at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas.
Koepka’s bag had some new additions since his last PGA Tour event at the CJ Cup at The Summit. Although Koepka already had Srixon’s ZX7 irons in the bag since the Waste Management Phoenix Open (which he won), he had a prototype Srixon Z-Star ball, Srixon ZX5 driver and a trio of Cleveland RTX ZipCore wedges. Holdovers were a TaylorMade M2 fairway wood, a Nike Vapor Pro 3-iron and his trusty Scotty Cameron by Titleist Newport 2 SLT 10 putter that Koepka has used to win all four of his major championships. While DeChambeau was using a prototype 9-degree Cobra driver nudging near the 48-inch limit, Koepka’s driver has a 44.5-inch Mitsubishi Diamana D+ 70 TX shaft tipped an inch.
The Z-Star prototype ball replaced the 2017 version of the Titleist Pro V1x that Koepka has favored for some time, claiming it not only best fit his launch conditions throughout the bag, but performed well in the wind.
There wasn’t much wind in Las Vegas, but the new sticks and ball performed well enough to give Koepka bragging rights over Bryson. A pretty good week, indeed.
