The New York Rangers have won six of their last seven games and have moved within two points of first place in the Metro Division.

This has garnered the Blueshirts notoriety around the NHL and it is showing in the latest Power Rankings.

Daily Goal Horn’s Top Five Teams

Over at our sister site The Daily Goal Horn, the Blueshirts have moved into the top five at fourth overall.

Early in the season, the Blueshirts were buoyed by the extraordinary goaltending of Igor Shesterkin. While he’s still playing well, the Rangers have found a way to lower chances against and get more of their own. Coach Gerard Gallant’s team has won 6 of their last 7 games, with points in 8 of 10 contests this month. They are two points out of first in the Metro.

November’s top five teams:

  • Florida Panthers 14-2-3 ⬆️
  • Carolina Hurricanes 14-3-1 ⬇️
  • Toronto Maple Leafs 14-6-1 (New)
  • New York Rangers 12-4-3 (New)
  • Calgary Flames 12-3-5 ⬇️

Rangers Power Rankings across the NHL

Over at ESPN, they list the Rangers at 7 overall moving up from 13.

There are arguments for a few breakout candidates in New York, namely Filip Chytil and Kaapo Kakko. But Lindgren has been doing a lot for the Blueshirts’ back end.

ESPN

Sportnet has the Blueshirts in at 9.

Igor Shesterkin may be the man, but a little support from Alexandar Georgiev would be nice. The Bulgarian has the worst save percentage (.858) of the 56 goalies who have appeared in at least five games.

Sportsnet

NBC Sports puts the Rangers in at 10.

In the super competitive Metro Division, the Rangers are at least staying within striking distance of the hot Caps and Hurricanes.

NBC

The Athletic, which overall has not been a big fan of the Rangers puts them in at 12.

What should this team be thankful for? The honest-to-god answer here, boring as it might be, is Igor Shesterkin. The Rangers’ expected goals share is fifth-worst in the league, at 46.6 percent, and their actual rate isn’t much better. Shesterkin and his .932 save percentage have made that hold up, at least for the time being.
