The New York Mets have made their first splash in 2021 MLB Free Agency, signing infielder Eduardo Escobar to a two-year deal worth $20 million after he split time with the Milwaukee Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks in 2021. Via Jon Heyman:

The Mets address a clear need here because Escobar typically plays third base, a position where the team has been looking to add depth. The 33-year-old is capable of playing anywhere else in the infield as well. After a dismal 2020 campaign, Escobar bounced back last season en route to being named an All-Star for the first time in his career. He hit .253 with 28 home runs and 90 RBI's, helping the Brew Crew win the NL Central.
While this is Escobar's fifth team since making his big league debut in 2011, it's definitely a decent signing for the Mets given how well he played in 21′. NY is still eyeing the likes of Kris Bryant as their everyday third basemen, but having a utility man like Escobar who can swing it and bring solid defense to the table is always valuable.
In fact, the last few years have evidently been his best from a power standpoint, also smacking 35 long balls in 2019. The Mets will be hoping he can bring that same production to Citi Field as they look to get back into contention in 2022.
