Rangers’ Chris Kreider attempted ‘The Michigan’ in win over Bruins

Chris Kreider had fans buzzing in the Rangers win against the Bruins on Friday.

The winger attempted a lacrosse-style move behind the net, which the Rangers Twitter account said was “so close to breaking the internet.”

Kreider flipped the puck onto his stick while skating behind the net and swung it around at the top of the net. While he didn’t score, it was surely an attention-getting move.

The swift move reminded fans of “The Michigan” — a maneuver credited to former Wolverines player Mike Legg. The former Michigan player famously notched a goal he scored in a 1996 NCAA Tournament with the move in a game against the University of Minnesota.

Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov became the first NHLer to score using the move against the Flames in Oct. 2019. He then repeated it in December vs. the Jets.

The Bruins were up 2-1 in the second period, when the Rangers took over. New York scored three of five goals in the third period to secure their third straight win.

After a 4-1 win against the Islanders on Wednesday, the Rangers will host them on Sunday. It will be the first of four consecutive games at home against the Flyers, Sharks and Blackhawks.
