Derby town officials said their annual Christmas tree lighting has been postponed because of Covid-19.
The town announced that the tree lighting, which was scheduled for Friday, Nov. 26, has been pushed back to an undetermined date.
“Christmas - a holiday celebrated around the world - is not canceled in the City of Derby. As mayor, I have an obligation to keep our residents - and most importantly our children safe. Early next week, my office will be announcing a new date for this
time-honored tradition in our city,” Mayor Richard Dziekan said in a statement.

The mayor said the decision is "in light of Covid-19 pandemic statistics coming from the state."
