A school resource officer (SRO) has been arrested in Howell County for a sexual offense involving a student. In a statement linked to the Howell County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Sheriff Brent Campbell says his department received allegations Wednesday involving an employee. Sheriff Campbell says the allegations were ones of “moral turpitude and a sexual offense.”An investigation into the allegations Thursday lead to the employee’s arrest and termination from the sheriff’s office.

The unnamed suspect was also employed with South Fork Elementary as an SRO. However, Lt. Torey Thompson tells KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot news the student involved did not attend South Fork Elementary. Lt. Thompson says while the allegations are of a sexual offense, the exact charge has not been released.

Sheriff Campbell says in his posted statement, “As with all matters that erode the integrity and efficiency of your Office of Sheriff, I want to reinforce to the community that an internal investigation shall be administered in order to discover any potential points of failure in order (to) mitigate such matters…”
