KALAMAZOO, MI – Some Kalamazoo residents should boil their water before ingesting it after a water main break.
A water main broke Friday, Nov. 26 on Whites Road, causing a temporary loss of pressure, which means water should be boiled as a precautionary measure, the city of Kalamazoo said in a news release.
People living in Westnedge Hill and South Westnedge neighborhoods on Whites Road from Duke Street to South Westnedge Avenue should boil their water for two minutes before consuming it, the news release said. People living on the northeast and southeast corners of Whites Road and Duke Street should also boil water.
The city emphasized that the advisory does not include the northwest or southwest corners of the intersection of Whites Road and South Westnedge Avenue.
The advisory is expected to be lifted on Monday, Nov. 29, the release said.
There are no confirmed tests showing bacteria was present in the water main, the release said. Initial results will be ready within 24 hours and the final results within 48 hours.
Crews are working to repair the break, the release said.
No precautionary methods need to be taken for personal hygiene, just precautions for drinking the water, the release said.
