Glotfelty scores nine goals over weekend

Boys varsity begins season in Telluride

The Durango Girls 19U hockey team won three of its four games this weekend in Breckenridge, beating the Summit Lightning, West Elk Wolverines and Aspen Leafs.

The team’s sole loss came to Steamboat Springs despite outshooting all the teams.

Madeline Glotfelty was Durango’s leading scorer, with nine goals overall. Sophie Sheppard, Piper Morehouse and Shelby Zuber also scored for Durango. Demons goalie Fiona Chandler made 107 saves.

The high school varsity team split its home opener against Telluride, 5-3 and 1-5. Zak Wentworth led the team in scoring, with three goals for the weekend. Henry Howe, Lukas Petranek and Nicholas Best added goals, and goalie Evan Brock had a total of 46 saves. The Demons will play the Albuquerque Bears at Chapman Hill at 12:15 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., Dec. 4.

Durango’s 10U-A Ice Devils went 3-0 against the New Mexico Ice Wolves in Albuquerque, outscoring their opponents 15-6. Tyler Wood led the team with five goals. Asher Clair, Brady Wright, Carter Lopez, Emmett Sorenson, Greyson Bickert and Soren Van Winkle also scored goals. Goalie Walker Green made a total of 46 saves.

The 12U-B Ice Devils also went 3-0 against the New Mexico Ice Wolves, outscoring their opponents 14-5. Ben Blanchard and Eric Strength each scored five goals to lead the team’s offense, and Benji Rice, Brady Labossiere, Colton Green and Jerad Lopez added goals. Jack Womack and Landon Quimby shared goalie duties, making 33 and 11 saves, respectively.
