Silver Lake football reaches into its bag of tricks to defeat Pembroke
Silver Lake football ends the season on a high note with a 14-13 win over Pemroke
KINGSTON - Pembroke High and Silver Lake football have had some lob sided scores over the past few seasons, but the pendulum swung the other way in the latest game of the Thanksgiving rivalry.
The Lakers reached deep into the playbook for a triple-reverse pass in the final minute of the game from junior DJ Gilmore to sophomore Jacob Barnett for a 20-yard touchdown and Mike Day’s point after kick gave the Lakers a thrilling 14-13 win.
After a scoreless first half, Silver Lake got on the scoreboard first with 7:20 left in the third quarter on touchdown run from Seth Wakefield. Day’s first extra point on the day put Silver Lake into the led 7-0.
Pembroke would not go quietly and came back with the next two scores. The first came on touchdown run by senior captain Aidan Keefe and then an interception on Silver Lake’s ensuing possession was run back for a score, The kick missed but the Titans now held a 13-7 advantage that held up until Silver Lake’s touchdown in the final minute of the game.
Silver Lake finished the season with a record of 5-6 while Pembroke High closed the books on a 2-8 season.
