Black Friday was expected to have larger crowds in 2021 compared to 2020, but shoppers were not quick to rush stores across Sacramento Friday morning.
Meanwhile, bottlenecks, due in part to shipping and trucker delays, are causing prices on items like televisions to soar, up to 17% marked up from last year, an Allianz Research representative told The Associated Press. Prices for items like toys, clothing, appliances and other items are up anywhere from 5% to 17%.
Fewer people in stores, short-staffed shops and low stock are anticipated to make shopping tricky during the holidays this year.
Many shoppers in the Arden Fair Mall Complex were browsing.
"I just couldn't sleep, I thought I'd do some black Friday shopping, and I thought well I could use an Instant Pot," said Adriana Ramirez.
Some people arriving to the mall and other shops said they were surprised at how few shoppers there were.
Retail economists still expect 2021 sales to be strong.
