Seth Curry could be first Philadelphia 76ers player to make 50/40/90 club

The 50/40/90 club is a small group of elite shooters in NBA history. Larry Bird was the first player to make at least 50.0 percent of his field goals, 40.0 percent of his 3-pointer, and 90.0 percent of his foul shots. Kyrie Irving joined the group last season, but the club has a total of 10 NBA players and one WNBA player.

It’s hard to make that group and sadly the Philadelphia 76ers don’t have a former or current player in that group yet. However, this season might be the year that they might get a player in that upper echelon of players.

The 50/40/90 club could get their first Philadelphia 76ers player in Curry this season.

Last season, Tobias Harris flirted with those stats as by the end of the year he shot 51.2 percent from the floor, 39.4 percent from behind the arc, and 89.2 percent from the free-throw line. Yet, obviously, he didn’t make it. This season, Seth Curry is the primary candidate to make the club.

Despite being 31-years-old, Curry is having a career year. Granted he had a very hot start to the season that made some like myself overreact, but he’s still averaging 15.9 points on 50.3 percent on field goals, 41.1 percent from downtown, and 92.9 percent from the foul line.

Obviously, the Sixers are only 19 games into the year so a lot of things can change, but early on the numbers don’t line. Curry, like his older brother Stephen Curry, is one of the best shooters in the NBA so if he makes this list it wouldn’t be surprising in the least bit.

For his career, Curry has shot 44.2 percent from the 3-point line, which is second best percentage among NBA players all-time and best among active players. It seems only right if he does make that club based on his resume. If he does, then he will be the first Philadelphia 76ers to make this list of players which will put him as arguably the best shooter in franchise history.
