It’s strange to think that the Lamborghini Huracan STO and Porsche 911 GT3 belong to the same VW family.

Unlike almost every other VW Group car with the same basic goal (in this case: be fun, lap quickly), this pair doesn’t share a platform or an engine. In fact, since one is mid-engined and V10-powered, and the other has a flat-six slung out beyond the rear wheels, they go about their business in very different ways.

The one thing they do share, and it’s a thing they share with very few cars still on sale, is that both use naturally aspirated engines. The 4.0-liter, 502-hp six in the GT3 and the 631-hp, 5.2 V10 in the STO are two of the best sounding engines you can buy, and that fact comes through loud and clear in this Autocar twin-test shootout at Anglesey Circuit in Wales. Unfortunately for Autocar’s video team, the Lambo’s engine is so dominant it almost completely drowns out the in-car chat, though plenty of people will think that makes for an even better vid.

If there’s one key question this video fails to answer, it’s which is fastest around Anglesey’s 1.55-mile track, though the damp weather means neither car would be putting down its very best time. And the presenters set out to decide which was the most fun, rather than fastest, eventually coming down in favor of the Porsche, whose size is more manageable, and whose on-limit handling is judged to be a little sweeter. The Porsche also happens to work slightly better on the road.

What ultimately might swing it for many people, is the price. Let’s be honest, you have to be loaded to afford either of these cars, but at $327,838 the Huracan STO costs twice as much as the $161,100 GT3. I’ve been lucky enough to drive both cars on this same track, and know the STO is unreal. But worth twice as much as the 911 GT3? Maybe in terms of sonic and visual drama, and car park kudos, but not in terms of dynamics. Cost no object, which would you take?
