Bracketology: West Virginia not in Favorable Position

Published

on

On Friday morning, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi updated his bracketology predictions with the recent mid-season tournament that have been going on this week.

Lunardi has moved West Virginia down to a No. 10 seed in the latest update. The Mountaineers were previously at a 9-seed.

West Virginia’s updated region:

1. Gonzaga
16.  Wagner

8. Texas Tech
9. North Carolina

5. Florida
12. Belmont

4. Arizona
13. Buffalo

6. Ohio State
11. Play-in game

3. Arkansas
14. Weber State

7. BYU
10. West Virginia

2. Memphis
15. Colgate

With this drop, West Virginia does not have a favorable bid in the NCAA Tournament predictions. Luckily for WVU, we are still in November and things will change.

The first round matchup against BYU is something that the Mountaineers want to avoid. BYU is not a 7-seed, they’re much better than that. The Cougars have defeated San Diego State and Oregon — by 32 points — already this season. The winner of that would take on Penny Hardaway’s Memphis team that has a lot of future NBA talent in Emoni Bates and Jalen Duren.

Hypothetically, West Virginia would not make it out of the first weekend in this region.

Big 12 seedings:

  • Kansas – 1 seed
  • Baylor – 2 seed
  • Texas – 3 seed
  • Texas Tech – 8 seed
  • West Virginia – 10 seed
  • Oklahoma – Last Four In
