KINGSTON, N.Y. — Nine people were displaced from four apartments and the Pupuseria Mi Ranchito Restaurant was temporarily shut down by a three-alarm Thanksgiving Day fire on Broadway, Fire Chief Chris Rea said Friday.

The fire at 614 Broadway was reported to Ulster County 911 at about 4:40 p.m., the department reported on Facebook.

Rea said initial reports indicated that residents might still be in the burning three-story apartment building and firefighters searched but found that everyone had gotten out safely. There were two patrons at the restaurant’s bar when the fire started, Rea said. No injuries were reported, he said.

A second alarm was called at 4:45 p.m. After firefighters who were searching the third floor discovered that the fire on the building’s third floor had extended into the walls and floor, a third alarm was called. The blaze was under control by about 5:25 p.m.

The fire, which has been deemed accidental, started in a second-floor utility closet in apartment two, the chief said. It could have been an electrical fire or may have started in a vent pipe from a heater, Rea said.

According to a press release, the Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross provided financial assistance which can be used for necessities such as shelter, food, and clothing to the adults and two children, ages 1 and 14.
