BOSTON — Charlie McAvoy will be back in the Bruins lineup with no restrictions Friday when the Bruins square off with the Rangers at 1 p.m. TD Garden.
McAvoy left Wednesday’s game after his head was slammed into the boards by Buffalo forward Zemgus Girgensons with 6:14 left in the third period.
“He probably just head a little bit of a headache,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. “Fortunately it’s not much more than that. He has a cut. Hopefully, it doesn’t affect how his helmet lays on his head.”
Cassidy had been optimistic after Wednesday’s game that his franchise defenseman hadn’t suffered a concussion. McAvoy participated in his charity event Thursday donating hundreds of pies and winter hats to organizations around Boston.
“Giving back to the community in Boston, it gives you some perspective,” McAvoy said in a Bruins press release. “On a day like today, it makes you even more thankful for what you have. We have so many amazing people. Amazing volunteers, people with gigantic hearts. Overall, it was a great day today and I was really happy to be a part of it.”
McAvoy has three goals and 10 assists in 16 games and leads Bruins with a +5.
Ullmark could be back Sunday — Linus Ullmark, who was a late scratch with an undisclosed injury before Wednesday’s game is a likely starter in goal against Vancouver, Sunday as long as he doesn’t have a setback in practice Saturday.
