The Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation’s Ladies for Literacy Guild hosted the sixth annual Power of Literacy Luncheon at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston, with nearly 500 guests. The event was co-chaired by Stephanie Tsuru and Leisa Holland-Nelson Bowman and emceed by KPRC 2 news anchor Keith Garvin. Setting the scene were giant books and fall décor. Rabbi David Lyon of Congregation Beth Israel offered an invocation, and the keynote speaker was television host Kathie Lee Gifford. The fireside chat, moderated by news anchor Dominique Sachse, spanned Gifford’s entertainment career and her new book, The Jesus I Know. Dominique revealed a surprise video featuring a special message from Gifford’s co-host, Hoda Kotb. The luncheon raised more than $430,000.
