Woman shot while entering I-59/20 in Fairfield; Authorities say victim was being followed

A 26-year-old woman was seriously injured when she was shot while driving on an interstate ramp in Fairfield Friday morning.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched just before 5 a.m. to a gas station in the 4000 block of Lloyd Noland Parkway in Fairfield on reports of a person shot.

Sgt. Joni Money said they found the woman with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

The investigation showed that the woman had dropped a person off at a hotel in Fairfield. After she left, a vehicle began following her.

As she was driving on the on-ramp to I-59 northbound, someone from inside the vehicle that was following began firing shots at her.

The victim exited the interstate and drove to the gas station where she called for help. She was taken to UAB Hospital.
