Aldi Attempts To Attract Shoppers From Fortnum & Mason

Aldi made a cheeky bid to woo high-end consumers to its stores this week by offering to transport customers from upmarket grocer Fortnum & Mason in London by chauffeur-driven car.

The discounter audaciously parked a Bentley outside the doors of Fortnum & Mason, offering would-be customers the chance to switch their visit to a nearby Aldi. Once inside the luxury car, shoppers were offered Aldi’s ‘award winning’ Veuve Monsigny Champagne and a gold platter of its Specially Selected mince pies.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “We know Fortnum customers like the finer things in life and we wanted to show you can get the same quality at a fraction of the price by switching to Aldi. We also wanted to provide some much added fun to their festive day out.”

Aldi stated that it was pulling out “all the stops” this festive season by launching its most premium Christmas food range to date under its Specially Selected brand, which will be available from 2 December.
