20-year-old man killed in Birmingham shooting

A shooting in northern Birmingham has left one man dead.

Donnie Edward Harris, 20, was shot to death Wednesday night in the Collegeville area.

The shooting is believed to have happened shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 3000 block of 30th Avenue North. Harris was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:20 p.m., according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Harris was reportedly shot during a domestic argument. No additional information has yet been released.

Harris is Birmingham’s 109th homicide so far this year. Of those, 13 have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.

In all of Jefferson County there have been 181 homicides, including the 109 in Birmingham.
