Malik Willis is one of the most electric players in college football. He is not the biggest player standing at 6’1 and weighing only 215 pounds but he can make every NFL throw and he can absolutely kill you with his legs.

We have noticed that smaller quarterbacks lately have been getting more and more opportunities in the NFL. Guys like Kyler Murray, and Baker Mayfield are smaller quarterbacks in which teams were able to overlook their height problems. At 6’1 Willis is bigger than both of these quarterbacks, so I doubt that will be an issue with NFL teams.

Willis was at Auburn before transferring to Liberty to play with Coach Huge Freeze.

I believe Level of Competition is going to be the biggest hurdle for Willis. Liberty is an independent program in the FBS. The Flames became a provisional FBS member in 2018, and became a full FBS member with bowl eligibility in 2019.

Last year, Liberty ranked in the top 25 for the first time in program history with Willis at the helm. This year Willis has 23 touchdowns passing and 11 interceptions. He has a 70.3 QBR with 2,321 yards passing. If you add in the 10 rushing touchdowns this year, Willis is considered a top prospect in this year’s draft class. His biggest competition at this point is Ole Miss gunslinger Matt Corral.

Corral has been playing lights out this year as well. He has 20 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions in 2021. He has an 80.7 QBR with 3,334 yards passing. Corral has already declared he is leaving school to pursue a shot at the NFL.

The wild thing is Corral has 10 rushing touchdowns as well. Corral stands at 6’2 and weighs 205 pounds. Both Willis and Corral are athletic players, with the edge going to Willis in my opinion. When it comes to pure passing though, I think I have to tip my hat to Corral who is a better distributor.

When you look at the NFL, the scheme is super important when evaluating a quarterback prospect. Both of these quarterbacks are mobile, but I think Corral is going to need a quick game team, someone with RPO’s and a timing offense. I think that will suit him the best.

When you look at Willis, I think he will have to go to a team with a great line because he does take a little bit longer to develop. When he has time he will shred up you. If he is rushed he can struggle. If a team can get him out of the pocket to look down field to give him more time, he will be great at the next level.
