“Cyberpunk 2077 Will be Perceived as a Very Good Game in the Long Run” – CDPR

CD Projekt president Adam Kiciński also reiterates that the action RPG's patch 1.5 and PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions will arrive in Q1 2022.

Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the biggest, most anticipated releases of its generation, but its horribly botched launch was a huge shock to the industry at large, with CD Projekt RED’s stock taking a huge hit as a result. The Polish developer has been working on fixes and updates for the game since it came out a year ago though, and remains confident that in the long run, the action RPG will make good on its promises.

Speaking in an interview with Polish outlet Rzeczpospolita, CD Projekt president Adam Kiciński talked about the ambitions the studio had for Cyberpunk 2077. Though the game fell short of expectations in many key ways, Kiciński insists that it will continue to sell for many years, and as the developer makes consistent improvements to the product – especially as better hardware and technology become available – it will go on to “be perceived as a very good game in the long run.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is the largest, most ambitious and by far the most complex project in our 27-year history,” Kiciński said. “We tried to go a step further in almost every aspect, just like we did with every new Witcher game we released.

“Releasing a game under a new franchise entails many challenges and risks, especially when the concept is so complex. We have brought to life the huge, futuristic Night City, bustling with life, in which non-linear stories of heroes take place. We are proud of many aspects of the game, but – as we know – not everything went our way.”

Kiciński continued: “Nevertheless, the awareness of the Cyberpunk brand that we have managed to build is huge, and the game universe, its characters and detail have fans all over the world. We believe that in the long term Cyberpunk 2077 will be perceived as a very good game and, like our other titles, it will sell for years – especially as the hardware will be more efficient and the game will be improved by us all the time.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Kiciński also reiterated that Cyberpunk 2077’s native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are set to arrive some time in Q1 of 2022. Patch 1.5 for the action RPG will be arriving in that same window, and Kiciński says no more updates are planned for the game for 2021. Native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions for The Witcher 3 are also planned for 2022.

Currently, Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia.
