The overnight rain is expected to end as a cold front on Friday morning works through the Lehigh Valley and northwest New Jersey, lifting the chance of wind gusts up to 40 mph and lake effect snow showers as chilly temperatures dominate, forecasts say.
So far in November, the average daily temperatures has been 3 degrees below the normal of 44.6, according to National Weather Service figures recorded at Lehigh Valley International Airport and that’s not expected to change as the month nears an end.
EPAWA Weather Consulting meteorologist Bobby Martrich said in his morning forecast video that the wind could be the major factor from the afternoon into the evening on Friday as the front heads off the coast.
Snow showers could reach as far south as the Interstate 78 corridor, driven by Lakes Erie and Ontario, Martrich said. It could be just flurries, but some areas to the north could get snow squalls, he added.
“What everyone is looking for is what’s going to happen behind this,” Martrich said.
While he spoke Wednesday about snow later Sunday, it has speeded up and a clipper system is expected to arrive Saturday night, possibly leading to snow accumulating up to an inch on the grass in the Lehigh Valley and up to 3 inches in the Poconos, he said.
There could be a rain-snow mix on Sunday in the Valley, he added. Accumulation would be “very minor”, according to Martrich and the weather service forecast says, “Little or no snow accumulation expected.”
High temperatures over the next several days are expected to be six to eight degrees below normal, the weather service said.
