BOWLERS TO WATCH

Anthony Byles, Northern Burlington, So.

In the limited season, Byles managed to make an impact in his freshman season as the top scorer on a 3-3 Northern Burlington squad. With a 151 average highlighted by a 559 against Ewing. Byles will look to improve his numbers as a sophomore and perhaps assume the anchor spot on a young team that only lost one senior from last season.

Caroline Cowan, New Egypt, So.

Cowan brought “spunk” to the Warriors last season, and despite just being a freshman, she bowled really as well too. Cowan averaged a series of 397.4. It took a dip when she didn’t bowl the third game in the season finale. Her best set of the year was a478 which coincided with her high game 176.

Nick Canavera, Ewing, Sr.

One of the just two boys bowlers from last season’s All-Area team returning to the lanes this season alongside teammate Kyle Delutis, Canavera averaged 180 last season with a high game of 235 and a high set of 598. He surpassed 200 in a game on seven occasions and will look to put together another All-Area-worthy performance.

Kyle Delutis, Ewing, Sr.

The bowler with the top average in the area last season, Delutis joins Canavera to make up perhaps the best duo in the area. Delutis only went below 500 on one occasion in the regular season and managed to put up some monster scores, including a 609 against Pemberton and a 691 against Bordentown.

Kaitlyn Search, New Egypt, Jr.

Search led New Egypt with a 160 average per game. Search rolled a career-high and team-high 627 series in the final match of the year with games of 189, 206, and 232.

Mia Siminitus, Ewing, Jr.

Siminitus figures to fill in as the anchor bowler for the Blue Devils, which went 5-0 in the matches that were played (5-1 due to a forfeit). Siminitus averaged a solid 531 series with her being a 591. She rolled four games in the 200s including a 222, 212, 203, and a 202.

TEAMS TO WATCH

Bordentown girls

The Scotties went 2-8 last season, winning their first two matches, but there were some bright spots. Rayna Smith was fantastic as she averaged a 157 with a high series of 543 and high game of 216. Smith has since graduated, but the rest of the crew is back including Maggie Berton (337.7 average series) and Sophie McAteer (327.3 average set).

Ewing boys

With perhaps the most balanced roster in the area last season after returning all five of its starters from the previous year, Ewing managed to build a 6-1 record. This time around, however, the team will be tasked with replacing two of its top three bowlers from last season following the graduation of Aiden Reid and Michael Franks. Seniors Kyle Delutis and Nick Canavera as well as junior Kenny Romero will be counted upon as the team looks to return to its winning ways in a complete season this winter.

Ewing girls

Ewing only had four bowlers, yet it still went 5-1 on the season. The one loss was in the season opener due to a forfeit. Not enough girls were cleared at that point. Still, Jazmyn Willis was again the top bowler in the area. She’ll have to be replaced, but the aforementioned Siminitus really came on as a sophomore last winter. Sierra Reid didn’t play the whole year, but she averaged a 169 coming off of an injury.

New Egypt boys

New Egypt put together a 5-1 record last season while moving several bowlers in and out of the lineup throughout the year. Four of the team’s seven bowlers who saw significant time on the lanes are lost to graduation, including top scorer Justin McKnight. Senior Owen Dreher, sophomore Christopher Cameroni and senior Conner Ulozas will likely step into more featured roles as the team looks to sort out its lineup in 2021-22.

New Egypt girls

New Egypt lost Jessica Sakimura as she graduated, but the Warriors will be ones to watch this winter. Sam Palumbo is now co-coaching with Carolyn Santoro this season, is high on the team. Katie Search and her twin sister, Emily (140 average) are back along with senior Annie Witham (133 average), and sophomores Grace Kraemer (155 average) and Caroline Cowan (141 average). Are the cans of beans still around?

Northern Burlington boys

Northern Burlington built a 3-3 record last season and will look to show some improvement with four of its starters from last year returning to the lanes. Anthony Byles was the top bowler on the roster as a freshman last season, averaging 151 over the course of the year and will look to take another step as a sophomore. Senior Logan Stewart, junior Chris Delos and sophomore Teegan Klein all gained valuable experience and will be counted on once again this season.
