WESLEY CHAPEL — Law enforcement officials will temporarily impact traffic on Interstate 75 in Pasco County overnight on Monday to allow workers to pour the concrete decks for the new Overpass Road bridge under construction, the Florida Department of Transportation has announced.
Traffic will be paced at approximately 15 mph by officers one or more times for up to 20 minutes in each direction between 9 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday. Northbound traffic control will begin at State Road 56, Exit 275, and southbound pacing will begin north of State Road 52, Exit 285.
Lane closures will also be in place in the Overpass Road area, about halfway in between those two exits.
Traffic entering the interstate from interchange ramps within the pacing zone and the northbound Interstate 75 rest area will not be able to enter until the front of the pacing operation has passed and law enforcement reopens the ramps. Motorists should allow up to 20 extra minutes for their drive time through the area.
The section of Overpass Road between Old Pasco Road and Boyette Road closed to all traffic in February and is expected to remain closed for several more months. The closure was required for the removal of the old bridge over the interstate and the construction of the new bridge.
Construction of the $64 million interchange project by the Middlesex Corporation began in October 2020 and is anticipated to be completed in the summer of 2023, according to state transportation officials.
