Manchester City hold talks with Real Madrid superstar’s representatives

Manchester City are interested in signing Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and have even contacted his representatives about a potential deal in the summer, reports Catalan outlet El Nacional.

Karim Benzema, 33, has enjoyed an illustrious career with Real Madrid, where he’s won everything on offer. After the departure of a Cristiano Ronaldo a couple of summers ago, he’s arguably been the Los Blancos’ best player and continues to perform at the highest level possible week in week out.

The Frenchman is in blistering form in the current campaign as well, having already bagged 15 goals and eight assists from 17 matches in all competitions. While he is banging goals left, right, and center at the moment, Benzema will be turning 34 next month and that could see Real Madrid start planning for the future even though he’s indispensable in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI.

The likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland have been heavily linked with moves to Real Madrid and should either one of them arrive next summer, Benzema is likely to end up being sacrificed, claims El Nacional. This has alerted Manchester City, w are likely to be in the market for a c in the summer.

Pep Guardiola was keen on signing Harry Kane after the Tottenham striker’s own professed desire to leave but a deal didn’t materialize, making Jack Grealish the only high-profile addition in the summer. Manchester City decided against settling for an alternative when the Kane plan fell flat on the face, leaving Guardiola frustrated at the end of the window.

Nonetheless, Benzema has emerged as a target for the Cityzens, who have also been heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund goal-machine Erling Haaland in recent weeks. The report adds that Man City have held talks with the French striker’s entourage to explore the possibility of a summer move and have received a glowing response.

Benzema is still performing at the highest level and would give Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola a focal point in attack next season. Thus, it won’t surprise many if City approaches the French international from Real Madrid.
