It’s beginning to look like Ralf Rangnick will become Manchester United manager on an interim basis.

The German, who has inspired modern day coaching in Germany, is willing to come to manage United until the end of the season and wants assurances that he will move into a senior role as a consultant for big footballing decisions in the future.

This could work out as the best solution for United after sacking their manager before the halfway point in the season, as it gives the club a plan moving forward. The last few weeks have been horrendous with fans feeling Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job had become untenable.

United also had their eye on Ernesto Valverde and Rudi Garcia for the interim job, with interviews carried out by John Murtough and Darren Fletcher during the week, but it seems like a deal with Rangnick is in place.

Rangnick is currently manager of sports and development for Lokotomotiv Moscow, with Sky Sports claiming that talks are ongoing between United and the Russian club over an agreement to release him.

Fabrizio Romano has reported the same.

Michael Carrick was placed in temporary charge and he is expected to remain in charge for Sunday’s league game against Chelsea, even if a pre-weekend announcement is made on the new interim boss.

However, for Solskjaer’s efforts, the biggest complaint people had were his tactics and this should be an interesting appointment, because Rangnick is seen as a mentor for some of the biggest coaches out there.

The squad must react either way.
