TRACKING THE STORYLINES:
Finish Strong: The trip that began with the crew leaving Raleigh last Monday finally comes to a close today. The swing started strong for the group, earning wins in Vegas, Anaheim and Los Angeles, before leaving San Jose with just one point and then Seattle empty-handed. The team will hope to have a happy plane ride back to North Carolina before an off day tomorrow.
Get It Back: Today's meeting with Philadelphia is the first occasion of the season where the Canes will play an opponent that they've lost to already. Exactly two weeks ago the Flyers came to PNC Arena and backed by a 39-save effort from Carter Hart in net, they left town with a 2-1 victory. Steven Lorentz scored the lone goal in the contest for Carolina.
Finding A Way:In each of the last two games the Hurricanes have scored just one goal. Monday night in San Jose the Sharks got a strong performance from James Reimer, who stopped 22 out of 23. Even more impressive though, the defense in front of him blocked 23 shots. Wednesday night the team nearly doubled the Kraken in shots as the game went on, but Philipp Grubauer was the star of the contest, making 35 saves on 36 shots. Post-game Wednesday Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour gave credit to Grubauer, but also said that his team didn't capitalize. While defense and goaltending have been the strongest of departments for the team thus far this season, the team was averaging 3.5 goals-per-game at the start of the week. Now they'll hope to get back to that sort of production today.
Additional Notes:
Milestone Watch: Teuvo Teravainen needs one goal to reach 100 in his NHL career.
What Color Are We Wearing?:The team will be wearing their white sweaters today.
