As the Cube Queen is getting ready to direct her attacks against players, Epic Games is preparing a massive upgrade for Fortnite with the release of the next chapter. The company has already revealed the plan to switch to Unreal Engine 5, and soon, it is going to happen. The next chapter will certainly be interesting and the game might look completely different. Fun fact: The Naruto trailer was created with the new engine!

Fortnite is going to get some massive changes in December

In 2020, Epic Games has released Unreal Engine 5. The new engine has many more capabilities than the current engine Fortnite uses (Unreal Engine 4) and it will drastically impact the game. Last year, the Fortnite creator revealed the plan to switch the game to Unreal Engine 5 in mid-2021. However, this did not work out in a timely manner, which is why the transition was postponed for a later date.

Back in August 2021, HYPEX, the most popular Fortnite leaker, revealed that the game will be upgraded to the next engine in Season 9. Back then, there were no rumors about Chapter 3, which is not the case now. It turns out that there will be no Season 9. Instead, players will get a new chapter!

Unreal Engine 5 brings improved graphics and better resource optimization, among many other things. There will also be new physics changes! Epic Games claims the new engine features “a generational leap in fidelity” which unlocks new levels of realism. While we cannot expect Fortnite to have realistic graphics, it will certainly use the new engine to its advantage.

Creative is going to get bigger

With the new engine, it will be much easier to create bigger worlds, which is why we can expect the Creative mode to get even bigger! Furthermore, creators will most likely get new modding tools that are compatible with the new engine. Epic Games has already showcased this by designing and releasing custom objects to creative maps, which is something that will most likely be available to Fortnite creators as well.
