The New Jersey Devils have claimed forward Nathan Bastian on waivers from the Seattle Kraken Thursday afternoon.
Bastian, 23, returns to the organization that was his home since selecting him at the 2016 NHL Draft (second round, 41st overall) until the Kraken chose him this past summer in the NHL Expansion Draft.
Bastian will join the Devils in Nashville, and is available to play for New Jersey when it faces the Predators Friday night at 6 p.m.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound winger established himself as a perfect fit on the Devils' fourth line during his 2020-21 rookie season, in which he notched 10 points (3G, 7A) in 41 contests.
Bastian's physicality, energy, and tenacity helped his unit - with longtime friend Michael McLeod and Miles Wood - become the club's most consistent trio of the year. They were often used in defensive situations or in an attempt to change a game's momentum. Bastian was also a key contributor to the Devils' penalty-killing unit.
Bastian has 15 points (7G, 8A) in 60 career NHL game. He made his NHL debut with the Devils Jan. 19, 2019, vs. Anaheim. He has a goal, two points and 31 penalty minutes in 12 games with Seattle this year.
The Devils also announced that forward Jesper Boqvist (upper-body) has been placed on Injured Reserved retroactively to Nov. 18.
