The Detroit Lakes girls hockey team's comeback effort fell short on Tuesday night in its second home game of the season. Breckenridge-Wahpeton (1-1) pulled out a 9-8 victory in staving off the Lakers' (0-4) push at Kent Freeman Arena.

Trailing 9-5 in the first period, Emma Coley scored her fourth goal of the game under five minutes in to pull within three. Seventh-grader Ella Larson then scored her first career varsity goal before Haley Stattleman cut the deficit to one. Breckenridge-Wahpeton held on in the final minutes to win its first game of the young season.

Coley recorded her second four-goal game of the season and leads the team with nine goals and four assists. Stattleman had a pair of goals on Tuesday night in the loss.

Emma Wahl made 29 saves in her second straight start between the pipes. Breckenridge-Wahpeton's Kolle Schuler picked up the win in goal with 22 saves.
