We all know for a fact that Disney's divisive sequel trilogy nearly killed the entire Star Wars franchise and for a time, it looked like there was no redemption in sight. To be fair, the trilogy started off pretty promising with The Force Awakens getting things right by mixing the old and new. However, it all went downhill from there with Episodes VIII and IX failing to hit the mark despite performing extremely well at the box office.

The Skywalker saga may have come to a close but there have been persistent rumors about Disney working on a tenth Star Wars film that will follow the events of the sequel trilogy. Now, a new scoop from Giant Freakin Robot claims that the House of Mouse is bringing back J.J. Abrams to produce a series that will tie directly into the controversial trilogy.

For now, the specifics about the alleged project weren't disclosed but given the fact that it's set in the events following The Rise of Skywalker, it's almost guaranteed that we'll see familiar faces like Rey, Finn, and Poe back in a galaxy far, far away.

Assuming the rumored project is actually happening, the real question is, will it be able to redeem the sequel trilogy and remove the bitter taste it left in the mouths of longtime Star Wars fans? Probably not but it could ride the same wave of momentum the MandoVerse has, then I guess there's no reason for the fans to reject it. Let's just wait and see how it all plays out.

Meanwhile, the entire Skywalker saga is available for streaming on Disney+.
