Jermell Charlo v Brian Castano Undisputed Rematch Targeted for February!

Back in July, unified junior middleweight Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (34-1-1, 18KOs) and WBO champion Brian “El Boxi” Castano (17-0-2, 12KOs) battled to a draw in their instant-classic undisputed title fight. Ever since then, questions have been asked about when the rematch will happen. Well, it appears we all have that answer.

The two champions will collide in February on a date still TBD in Houston, Texas. The two men will look to yet again settle who’s really the best fighter at junior middleweight. Their first fight is a candidate for fight of the year. The fight produced action that had fight fans on their feet from excitement! Castano, an Argentina native, came out fast, appearing to sweep the majority of the first half of the fight.

However, Charlo would settle down and work himself back into the fight over the course of the second half. It was purely a battle of styles. Castano brought tons of pressure with an insane work-rate. Charlo, on the other hand, showcased tremendous boxing skills, counterpunching ability and his deceptive power.

While the announcement of a split decision draw brought jeers from the crowd, there’s no doubt that was the only result that should’ve come from their fight. Sure, you could make a case for either guy having their hand raised. However, if you go back and watch the fight, you’d be hard pressed to come away with anything other than a draw. The scorecards for the fight were 114-113 for Castano, 117-111 for Charlo and 114-114 even.

Now with everything seemingly falling into place for their highly anticipated rematch, fans can rejoice knowing that politics won’t be involved in preventing either man from joining the history books.

We here at 3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates once an official announcement is made.
