Columbia, Mo. (KMIZ.)

Several organizations are hosting community meals for the Thanksgiving holiday, and one is deep-frying turkeys to raise money for charity.

Columbia's Thanksgiving Day tradition, Everybody Eats, continues this year with a dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Columbia Senior Center at 1121 Business Loop 70 E. The community meal is free to everyone. The event was created years ago by Almeta Crayton, a former First Ward Columbia councilwoman who was active in the community.

The Rotary Club of Columbia began frying about 300 turkeys Wednesday and continued Thursday. The fundraiser, which ends at noon Thursday, is in its third year. Volunteers were frying 39 turkeys at a time Thursday morning.

Two community dinners are being held in Jefferson City.

Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will hold a Thanksgiving meal service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1206 E. McCarty St., Jefferson City. The event began 13 years ago. Meals will be served at the school but can be carried out. The church will also serve meals at Dulle and Hamilton apartments. Call 573-635-6143 for more information.

The Salvation Army Center for Hope at 927 Jefferson St. will serve free meals from noon to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Meals will also be delivered. Call 573-635-1975 for more information.
