Well well well, look who’s ready to siiiiiiiing us a soooooooong once more?
On Thursday, Starz gave Outlander viewers a wee treat by releasing the opening title sequence ahead of the show’s upcoming Season 6. And in addition to tweaking the version of “The Skye Boat Song” that plays at the start of every episode — like the show has done many times before — we get a bunch of clues as to what’s ahead this season.
Those who’ve read A Breath of Snow and Ashes, the Diana Gabaldon novel on which Season 6 is based, will be able to tie some of the visuals in the sequence to events in the book. And because Droughtlander has felt so very long this year in particular, how about we break down everything we can see, aye? (And if you don’t want to know things that happened in the book and that may verra well take place in the TV show, just cue up the video above and enjoy your day!)
As the credits play, we see:
* The lantern dancers who’ve been in the credits forever
* A bald eagle (‘Murica!)
* Muddy Claire legs as she runs from her destiny, circa Season 1
* Jamie riding out of the stables on a white horse
* Target practice at Fraser’s Ridge, which is far more built-up than it was the last time we visited
* Someone (Roger?) trudging uphill in snow to what looks like a half-built church
* A Native American, or possibly Young Ian?, sitting near a fire
* A gorgeous lake shot
* A woman holding a man’s hand; he appears to be behind bars (This is likely Claire and Tom Christie, right?)
* Jamie’s naked and scarred back, with Claire’s hand caressing it, while they have some alone time
* A little boy (an aged-up Jemmy, if I had to put money on it) with a carved wooden airplane, running
* Claire packing heat as she rushes out of the big house
* Marsali (?) spinning at a wheel
* Fergus enjoying a dram by the fire
* Brianna proudly striking a match
* Roger praying
* Claire & Co. riding horses by the ocean
Outlander will return on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 9/8c. Until then, press PLAY on the video above and then hit the comments with your thoughts!
This totally makes my Thanksgiving! Thanks you!
Not a fan of this version of the song. I loved them all up until the move to the US.
I was just about to post the same thing. I do not like it at all. I wish they would just stick to the version from season one. If it’s not broke. Don’t fix it!
The series lost something after that move to Merica.
Interesting remix of the theme. Making it a male-female duet feels appropriate at this point in the show. The minimal instrumentals really help to emphasize the voices, making it more personal than the other versions – this is a couple forging their destiny, rather than merely swept up in it.

It doesn’t evoke a sense of time and place quite as vividly as each of the previous renditions, but it definitely sets a mood.
Não tinha visto por este prima .
No one is going to mention the gender change in pronouns? Haven’t prior iterations been female, as in “say, could that lass be I?”
Yes, it was lass. But, when the male was singing, he changed it to lad. When the female voice came in and they got to that part, they both said lass. It makes more sense for a male voice to sing, “Say, could that lad be I?”
What a strange picture. I thought they made them up to look like elves, but I was just seeing things.
This version of the song pretty much sucks. I will mute the TV during the intro.
I hit the 10-second fast forward button 10 times to get to the main title and then the little “scene” that ties into the episode. I just can’t stand the song after season 1.
Somethings going to happen to Jamie, hence the man singing in the song. The Browns look to seek revenge. That’s why we see Claire leading a charge of riders.
Yeah, not liking this version… is the guy out of tune or is it just me? 🧐
Sad! Another botched attempt at what was once perfection as far as tv theme songs. I’ll either mute or FF through the credits again this season🤢
One of the things I loved the most about Outlander was the beautiful music in the introduction. It gave me the chills just listening to it. I do not like this introduction it all. Big mistake! Why change something that was perfect! Of course I will keep watching but I was very disappointed!
So tired of people dunking on all the non-season one versions of the Skye Boat Song. I mean, everyone’s allowed their opinion, but I just don’t get it. I’ve loved them all! This new one is especially beautiful I think. The female vocals sung by Raya Yarbrough ( we all recognize her voice by now) and the male vocals added by the amazing Griogair Labhruidh (I think that’s pronounced something like Greegir Lambrey?) When I first heard him start to sing it sent me straight back in time. I got chills. I can’t wait for Droughtlander to be truly over. Happy Thanksgiving all!
I so agree with you! I’ve enjoyed all the different versions of the song. Loved the duet in this one.
I also can’t figure out all the moaning about new versions. They change it every season so no one should be shocked. I thought the choral version last season was particularly beautiful. This one feels more raw and earthy, which tracks with the action of the show.
People just love to complain. It is just that simple. I don’t know why they don’t just keep watching Season One over and over and give the rest of us a break from the complaining on comparison of everything to Season One.
