It was a welcome sight for Southampton fans when they saw pictures of Jack Stephens in training this week after his injury a few months ago.

The defender had a great start to the season in our backline and it was a big blow when we lost him to a knee injury.  But, now he is back and Ralph will have some decisions to make when it comes to who plays alongside Mohammed Salisu.

I think, there could be a possibility that we see three in the back against Liverpool this weekend but ultimately there will only be two going forward. If we do see a 3-back formation against Liverpool it will be interesting to see how Stephens performs being thrown right into the fire coming off an injury.

If he performs, we could see him reclaim his spot alongside Salisu but I think that will be a tough ask as Bednerak has been really solid since taking over for Stephens.

dark. Next. Mixed team news for Southampton as they prepare to face Liverpool

Southampton had a very disappointing result against Norwich last week and have a tough ask if they hope to bounce back against Liverpool this week. Famously, they did beat Liverpool in this fixture last year.

If they can repeat that result some may call it a minor miracle but it is very possible. Southampton have been very solid defensively they just need to start scoring goals. Someone will step up soon and start putting some in the back of the net but until then it will be a long season.
