Real Madrid took care of business in the Champions League on Wednesday night in Moldova, defeating Sheriff 3-0 in a commanding display. On Sunday night, Los Blancos have an even tougher task ahead of them in La Liga, as they must face one of the best clubs this season, Sevilla. And as we all know, Sevilla are always a tough opponent, even at the Santiago Bernabeu.

This match against Sevilla is the first of three against the other top four teams in La Liga. Julen Lopetegui’s side have steadily improved in each year of his tenure, and they are legitimate title contenders in 2021-2022.

Here is a look at the predicted lineup for Real Madrid on Sunday night vs. Sevilla.

GK Thibaut Courtois

Thibaut Courtois is a lock to start in goal for Real Madrid. The Belgian goalkeeper has been one of the best in Europe for another season running, and his distribution was a highlight in the clean sheet win over Sheriff. Courtois is as consistent as they come, and while Sevilla will be without the likes of Erik Lamela and Youssef En-Nesyri on Matchday 15, you had better believe he will be tested by the visitors this weekend. And he will surely be up to the task.

LB Ferland Mendy

In each of the past two matches, Ferland Mendy started the game rocky with some questionable touches and crosses, but he grew into the match to finish strong. Mendy’s defensive work remains top-notch, and he picked up an assist for Karim Benzema against Sheriff. He could have a great performance on Sunday.

CB David Alaba

David Alaba is tentatively expected to start vs. Sevilla despite suffering a possible knee injury at Sheriff. The veteran defender scored Real’s first goal on Wednesday night from a free kick, and his attacking contributions have been key to Los Blancos in his first season with the club. If Alaba cannot start, Nacho Fernandez will get another appearance. He usually does well in these matches against Sevilla. Who can forget this genius free kick goal?

CB Eder Militao

After a tremendous end to the 2020-2021 season, breakout star Eder Militao has picked up where he left off in 2021-2022. Yes, he makes the occasional mistake, but which center backs don’t err? Militao covers more blushes (far more) than he makes. His reading of the game is impressive for a 23-year-old. Militao is a sure-fire starter in every important match.

RB Dani Carvajal

Dani Carvajal has found his world-class form again. At full strength after a number of injuries, Carvajal has been excellent in three straight matches for the Merengue club. He was everywhere against Sheriff on both ends of the pitch, and his defensive work at right back is the finest of anyone at the position. But he will be tested more than any other player this weekend vs. Sevilla, as Marcos Acuna and the explosive Lucas Ocampos await him.
