The Telegraph’s Matt Law is well connected at Chelsea, and he’s just dropped a piece of news we’ve been dreading since last night.

Ben Chilwell was taken off in the second half looking in agony after picking up a knee injury, and the club apparently fear the left back has anterior cruciate ligament damage and could miss the rest of the season.

The news will be confirmed later today, pending a full medical assessment at the training ground.

Chilwell took a while to work his way back into the team after a slow start to the season following the Euros, but in recent weeks he’s been in top form, playing as well as he has done at any point in his Chelsea career.

There’s something especially painful about such an injury coming in a game where Chelsea were so dominant, and just as they have hit top gear in what looks to be a very promising season.
