TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) — A group of pets is safe Wednesday thanks to new equipment at the Tulare County Fire Department.
The department received a call about a structure fire on Road 234 in Strathmore, just east of Highway 65.

When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the home.
No one was still in the house, but two dogs and two guinea pigs remained inside.
Firefighters were able to find both dogs and guinea pigs and safely rescued them from the house.
Crews used animal oxygen masks to resuscitate one of the dogs.

The department was given the masks in April and says they helped save the pet’s lives.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
