Brisbane Broncos workhorse Patrick Carrigan has re-signed for a further two years, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2024 NRL season.

Already contracted for next year, Carrigan was in high-demand from rival clubs since November 1, with expansion club The Dolphins very keen on the young forward.

The 23-year-old has come through the ranks at Red Hill, and after already leading the side on 12 occasions, is seen as the Broncos' long-term skipper.

Broncos head of football Ben Ikin believes the club are 'lucky' to retain a player of Carrigan's ability and leadership quality.

“I’m very happy Pat chose to extend his stay at the Brisbane Broncos - he’s been in our system for a long time and is highly regarded by everyone at the club," he said.

"Pat’s a quality player and a great leader, and we’re lucky to have him.”

The lock forward missed a large chunk of 2021 due to an ACL injury, but is expected to be fit for the start of next season.

Carrigan has played 46 games for Brisbane since making his NRL debut back in 2019, and joins a growing list of players to commit to the club.

The likes of Kotoni Staggs, Selwyn Cobbo, Brendan Piakura and Jordan Riki have all extended their stays at the Broncos, while the club have also added Adam Reynolds and Kurt Capewell for 2022 and beyond.
