This Thanksgiving week kicked off a busy holiday travel season. Millions of people are packing up and traveling across the county to meet with loved ones during the holiday.

Airports like Valley International Airport in Harlingen anticipate the largest surge in travelers since the pandemic.

Valley International Aviation Director Marv Esterly says there's no doubt it's busier this year compared to 2019, the last pre-COIVD Thanksgiving. He says plans have been fully booked over the last several days.

"They're actually taking that trip and going to see friends and family. So, we're seeing an influx of passengers." Esterly said. "We've been assured that those airlines are staffed, they're fully staffed with pilots and crews, so unless there's a huge weather even somewhere, I think that everyone is going to have a good travel experience."

Airport officials say if you're looking to fly with gifts and packages, remember to wait until you arrive at your destination to wrap them because TSA will unwrap them.
