KAUKAUNA, Wis. (WLUK) -- It's not Thanksgiving dinner without a pumpkin pie and one local food pantry was able to offer that to those who wanted one. Community organizations in the Fox Valley came together to Make A Difference.
In the season of giving "thanks" one Fox Valley business wanted to make sure they did their part.
“In the past, we’ve always given customers pumpkin pies around the holidays. This year, we just decided we wanted to do a little more," said Sarah Rathsack, with the Busha Team with Re/Max 24/7 in Appleton.
The Busha Team with ReMax donated 50 pies to Kaukauna Public Library's food pantry. The Trim Hunger organization donated dozens of hams for families to take this Thanksgiving.
"During the holidays, sometimes things get a little tight we’re just happy to make it a little brighter for some people in the area," said Rathsack.
While the pies and hams were donated by community organizations, the two tables worth of non-perishable items came from the Kaukauna High School Civics Engagement student organization.
“Students in that class put on a community wide food drive requesting donations from residents all across the city of Kaukauna. Those students collected four pick up trucks worth of non-perishable food hygiene items for us," said Angela Schneider, assistant director for the Kaukauna Public Library.
Schneider says the donations are a testament to the giving season.
“Obviously with COVID and the pandemic we saw that need expand and the generosity and the community came out and met that need and it hasn’t stopped," said Schneider.
And seeing organizations come together for a greater cause is what the world needs, according to Brad Behling of Kaukauna.
“In a world where everything is uncertain, to be able to come together as a community and help everybody else out it’s just great to see," said Behling.
Kaukauna Public Library offers its "little food pantry" during normal library hours. The library is always accepting donations, that can be dropped off in the lobby.
