Note: The following article contains discussion of rape and sexual misconduct that some readers may find upsetting.

Hollyoaks' Misbah Maalik is at the centre of a hugely emotional and upsetting storyline at the moment, as she is making a case against Ali Shahzad, who raped her 30 years ago.

Shaq Qureshi and Verity Hutchinson recently tried to help Misbah's case by forging a letter of Ali supposedly confessing his crime and handing it to the police, which would obviously backfire hugely if it was discovered.

In scenes set to air next week, Misbah learns about the forgery and feels like her hopes of a trial might have been ruined.

Things are complicated even further when a confession causes trouble for the family, while another family member seeks justice for Misbah through violent means, but who?

Misbah actress Harvey Virdi recently spoke to Digital Spy about the storyline, saying: "Being raped is bad enough, but it's even worse if you're not believed, you fear you won't be believed or you're being threatened to keep quiet. That's the bit that stops you healing mentally for many years.

"Our storyline talks about that. I realised how important that issue was and how many people have actually been through that."

Hollyoaks airs these scenes on Thursday, December 2 and Friday, December 3 at 6.30pm on Channel 4.
